Most doctors still use the traditional manual STRIP method which requires the doctor to surgically cut and remove a strip of scalp from the back of the head. The NeoGraft hair transplant machine eliminates the need for this type of painful surgical procedure. An FUE transplant using the NeoGraft machine is the least invasive technique for doing hair transplants, with the least complications. Down time is minimal.

An Fue transplant simply removes each follicle separately from the back of the head and transplants it to the bald areas. NeoGraft harvests follicles of excellent quality with a low transection rate.

The technology that created the NeoGraft machine addresses issues that had been problematic with other devices that are used for extracting individual follicles. There are spinning tools, or oscillating tools that some doctors use for an FUE hair transplant. These create a great deal of torsion and friction as the tool spins around at high speed. Torsion can cause damage to the follicle. Friction creates heat which can damage the follice as well.

NeoGraft technology overcame these problems with a dual action system that is under the control of the doctor, not an automatic motor that spins the punch around quickly. The NeoGraft device uses minimal oscillation which is controlled by the doctor. Each time the doctor uses the punch there is a short, quick, very small rotational spin, just enough to loosen the follicle. Spinning stops as the suction mechanism takes over to extract the already dislodged follicle. With this technology NeoGraft does not induce any damaging torsion nor heat.

The NeoGraft transplant machine is currently being used in several European and Asian countries. Over 6,000 hair transplants have been done in the last three years using NeoGraft with excellent, natural results. NeoGraft is now available in the United States.

Hair Transplant Information
The newest most advanced method of hair transplantation is called FUE (follicular unit extraction). From a surgical standpoint, a manual FUE hair transplant is extremely simple. It is a very safe, relatively minor procedure, unlike the standard STRIP procedure still used by most doctors today. The main problem with a manual FUE hair transplant is that it is very time consuming, making the procedure too costly for most patients. Now, with the NeoGraft Hair Transplant machine an FUE hair transplant can be done in the same amount of time as a Strip hair transplant, reducing the cost of an FUE transplant. In addition, to reducing the time required for the transplant, NeoGraft uses pneumatic pressure to extract the follicles eliminating the need for handling the follicles. This allows the follicles to remain more robust with better chances for survival.

The Strip procedure entails cutting a long piece of scalp out of the head and suturing the scalp together. With an FUE hair transplant there is no invasive surgery as with the STRIP method. With FUE each follicle from the back of the head is harvested individually and placed in the thinning or balding areas on the top of the head. The hair at the back of the head is genetically programmed to not fall out, unlike the hair at the top of the head. If the patient has sufficient hair at the back of the head, then an FUE transplant is the more beneficial transplant to have. If hair is lacking at the back of the head, body hair can be considered for transplantation as well. The patient is awake during the procedure, and can watch T.V. or talk with the doctor. It is virtually a painless procedure aside from the few initial local injections of anesthesia which feel like pinpricks. The NeoGraft machine is designed to help the doctor offer his patients this latest, most advanced procedure in hair transplantation.

The FUE method is the least invasive method since there is no cutting out a six inch or longer piece of scalp and suturing it together as there is with the STRIP method used by most doctors today. With the FUE method there is little bleeding and fewer complications. The procedure is performed with local anaesthetic and no intravenous or intra-muscular sedation is required. There are no linear scars which can stretch out over time. With FUE there is mostly no visible scarring allowing the hair to be worn short. There is little chance of damaged nerve pain or damage to major blood vessels. There are no limitations on activities for the first few weeks as with the STRIP method. There is less chance of permanent shock fallout of the follicles as a result of the procedure, and very little recovery time. A complication sometimes seen with the STRIP surgery is a feeling the scalp is too tight from the suturing together of the scalp.

Very few doctors offer a manual FUE method for a hair transplant. In addition to being time consuming and therefore more costly many doctors are not willing to train in the FUE procedure , especially if they have a busy practice doing STRIP surgeries. The result is that even though many patients are good candidates for an FUE hair transplant, if they are not seen by a doctor that specializes in FUE they may not be given advice which is in their best interest . A doctor who does not offer full disclosure about FUE is not acting in his patient's best interest.

Many doctors try to discourage their patients from an FUE hair transplant by speaking of the transection rate of an FUE transplant but fail to point out that with a STRIP surgery hundreds of follicles are transected when a piece of scalp is cut out. Furthermore, follicles may be damaged when suturing the scalp together. In addition, the scalp has to be cut into small units to be given to several technicians who will then separate the follicles to prepare them for transplantation. All these procedures may damage the follicles depending on the skill of the technicians. A doctor may also point out that with an FUE hair transplant the follicles have to be pulled, twisted and squeezed in order to extract them. This information may also be an attempt to dissuade the patient from having an FUE transplant. Generally, a capable FUE transplant doctor will be able to extract the follicles manually because most people's follicle's are resilient enough to undergo FUE transplantation. It takes quite a lot of twisting and squeezing to damage a follicle. There are many patients who have undergone manual FUE procedures and have had excellent results. Their testimonials are all over the internet. The drawbacks with manual FUE as mentioned before is the time needed for the procedure and the higher cost.

Even though most people who are candidates for a manual FUE hair transplant are not at risk for damaged follicles in the hands of an experienced doctor, there are some conditions of the scalp or hair that prevents some patients from being candidates for a manual FUE procedure. Some patients have a very tight scalp, or a thick scalp. Some individual?s follicles are deeper, and more firmly anchored than other people?s. These differences may require more tugging, pulling and twisting of the follicle by the doctor or technician who does not have the NeoGraft machine, increasing the chances of damaging the follicle. With the NeoGraft there is no twisting, pulling and squeezing of the follicles as NeoGraft applies just the right amount of pneumatic pressure (suction) to allow for easy removal of the follicle with the least amount of handling of the follicle. This same minimal suction moves the follicle through a very short tube to a holding reservoir. The suction is gentle enough to avoid any damage to the follicles. With the NeoGraft machine more people are eligible to have FUE transplants because the qualities of the patients skin and hair do not affect the performance of the machine.

NeoGraft eliminates most of the problems associated with a manual FUE procedure. NeoGraft uses pneumatic pressure, which can be individualized for each person's type of scalp in order to gently extract the follicle. NeoGraft, eliminates the twisting, pulling and squeezing of follicles. NeoGraft technology also addresses the problem caused by rotational devices, used by some doctors, which cause torsion and heat, two factors that can damage the follicles. NeoGraft controls spinning or oscillation of it's handpiece to a minimum, eliminating the damaging effects of heat and torsion. NeoGraft also reduces the time and cost factor of a manual FUE hair transplant. The NeoGraft machine has been developed to assist the doctor with the FUE procedure in order to make the procedure simpler and faster. The outcome of the FUE procedure using NeoGraft is not so dependent on the skill of the doctor. Most important however, is that the grafts extracted with the NeoGraft contra-angled tool are of excellent quality. Go to the link included at the bottom of this page to see the quality of the NeoGraft follicles. Over 6000 transplants have been done to date in the Orient and certain countries in Europe with excellent results. Now patients in North America can have a complete FUE transplant as well.

An FUE transplant, for those that are good candidates is the most beneficial type of transplant for the patient. Only a doctor that specializes in FUE hair transplants is qualified to give a patient advice on whether that patient is a good candidate for an FUE hair transplant. Beware of doctors who claim they do FUE, but predominantly do STRIP hair transplant surgeries. Check out the NeoGraft before making any decision for a hair transplant.

FUE Transplant and Frequently Asked Questions

I Am A Doctor. Can I Get Training On Your Machine?
When a doctor purchases the NeoGraft machine, training will be provided on the use of the machine. In the event the doctor has not performed transplant surgery but wishes to become a hair transplant surgeon both educational training and training in how to use the NeoGraft machine will be provided. In addition technical assistants will be provided to assist the doctor in hair transplant procedures. Most technical assistants are independent contractors and come to the doctor's office to help with the surgery. This is the industry standard for transplant surgery.

What Does Your Hair Transplant Device do?
The NeoGraft machine is a revolutionary automated hair transplant machine that assists the doctor in performing a hair transplant using the FUE technique, the latest hair transplant technology to date. The FUE technique is less invasive than the traditional STRIP method used by most doctors today. With the FUE technique there is no cutting of the scalp, as there is with the STRIP method. Since there is no cutting therefore there is no suturing, no visible scarring as with STRIP surgery, very little bleeding and almost immediate recovery time.

What Is An FUE Hair Transplant?
Follicular Unit Extraction is the most recently developed transplant procedure that does not involve any incisions like the STRIP method still used by most doctors today. The FUE method is the removal of individual hair follicles from the scalp, in their naturally occurring groupings of about 1-4 hairs. The follicles are then transplanted into the balding area. The Fue Transplant procedure was introduced in 2001. It is the least invasive procedure, with the fewest complications and the end result is an excellent, natural look.

Why Is FUE Not Offered By More Doctors?
Doing a complete transplant using the FUE method without the NeoGraft machine is very time consuming, requires many assistants and is therefore more costly than the STRIP method. Most doctors feel patients will not want to pay for this procedure so they do not promote it. Also doctors need to train in order to learn how to do this procedure and many are reluctant to do so, once they are comfortable with the STRIP method. For these reasons, most doctors do not offer a complete transplant using the FUE method. Some doctors may offer to use the FUE method on small areas such as filling in a hairline where few follicles are needed. However, most doctors, once they learn about the benefits of the FUE method, understand that it is more beneficial for the patient, since it is a much less invasive proceedure.

The NeoGraft machine brings down the cost of doing the FUE procedure because the procedure time is shortened and there is no need for the many technicians as there is when doing a manual FUE hair transplant. The reduced costs can be passed on to the patient, allowing more people to have the FUE procedure. Not all patients are suitable for the FUE procedure, but the NeoGraft machine allows a larger propotion of patients to have the FUE procedure. One of the main reasons that the FUE procedure may not be offered is if the patient's donor area is very small and then the STRIP method would be the more suitable method. However, today patients can use body hair with the FUE method if they do not want the STRIP surgery method.

What Are The Advantages Of Using Your Automated Device?
There are many advantages. Our device allows more individuals to be candidates for the FUE method of transplantation. Doing FUE by hand limits the number of people who can have this technique because of the time factor which raises the cost. Furthermore, some people have certain physical conditions such as deeply embedded follicles, thicker skin, or tougher skin and it is sometimes difficult to take out the grafts without damaging them. The NeoGraft machine uses controlled pneumatic pressure (suction) to slide out the follicle smoothly, so there is not the pulling and twisting with tweezers which puts the follicle at risk for damage. These conditions often eliminate individuals from being good candidates for the FUE method. The follicles extracted by the contra-angled tool are of an excellent quality. Furthermore because the transplant procedure is faster with the NeoGraft machine, the follicles can be re-implanted sooner which keeps them more robust, increasing the success of the grafting process. With the traditional manual method used for FUE hair transplants, the patient must rely more on the skilful hand of a technician or doctor. There is not the same consistency or quality control as with the NeoGraft.

Further advantages of the FUE procedure with the NeoGraft machine are less complications from surgery, mostly invisible scarring whereas with the SLIT method there is elongated scarring, reduced healing time, FUE is a non invasive surgery, unlike SLIT surgery which is invasive, and finally as stated, our device shortens the time of the FUE procedure, therefore reducing the cost.

What About STRIP Excision (FUT)?
STRIP excision, or FUT, is the traditional transplant procedure used by most doctors today whereby a strip of skin is removed from the donor site at the back of the patient?s head. The incision is stitched together in such a way that there is a linear scar. The scar may enlarge over time to overcome the tension of the skin created by cutting a strip and suturing the scalp together. The strip of skin is dissected by technicians under microscopes into follicle units of 1-4 hairs. Stitches come out in about two weeks. Patients experience pain with the STRIP surgery and medicine is prescribed for the pain.

How Do I Know Which One To Have, FUE Or STRIP?
With the FUE technique, only the individual hair follicle is removed. There is no dissection of skin or stitches. The small wound made when the follicle is extracted contracts as it heals, so the FUE patient ends up with tiny scars not visible to the naked eye. With the STRIP procedure there is an incision and a linear scar. Patients with a small donor area may require the STRIP method, however, body hair can often be used for an FUE transplant. With the NeoGraft more people qualify for the FUE method, which is less invasive, and has less possible complications. Your doctor will decide whether you are eligible for the FUE procedure.

Is a Hair Transplant Safe?
From a surgical standpoint, a hair transplant is very safe. It is a relatively minor surgical procedure. An FUE transplant is performed under local anaesthetic, and does require intravenous or intra-muscular sedation. With FUE the patient is awake during the procedure, and can watch T.V. or talk with the doctor.

Is FUE Hair Transplantation Painful?
Most people are surprised that there is virtually no pain during an FUE hair transplant procedure which is done under a local anaesthetic. Some small discomfort may occur as a local anaesthetic is injected into the scalp. Once the skin is properly anaesthetized, there is no pain. After the FUE surgery, patients will typically feel some minor discomfort. It is usually described as minimal. With the STRIP method, there is more pain, with the amount of pain depending on each patients individual pain threshhold. Medicine can be prescribed to help with any discomfort or pain.

What Are The Possible Complications?
FUE Hair Transplant surgery is considered to be a minor procedure. There are rarely complications and any that may occur can easily be dealt with by your doctor. With SLIT surgery more complications can occur, such as infections, excessive scarring, a feeling of tightness of the scalp, hair loss in the scar area, nerve pain, bleeding, as well as a chance of damage to the occipital or temporal blood vessels.

When Can I Go Back To Work?
It is often possible to go back to work within the next day or two after the FUE transplant. With the SLIT proceedure, depending on the level of pain, more down time is usually required.

When Will My Newly Transplanted Hair Start To Grow?
Normally it takes between three to five months following surgery before the transplanted hair follicles begin to grow new hair.

Why Are The Costs Of The Transplant Reduced With Your Device?
The NeoGraft eliminates the need and cost for the many technicians necessary to help the doctor with the procedure. The machine also shortens the time needed to do the transplant, which reduces the cost as well. These savings can be passed on to the patient.

How Many Sessions Will Be Required?
It depends on how many grafts are to be transplanted. With NeoGraft, more than double the grafts can be transplanted compared to a manual FUE. With NeoGraft the same number of grafts can be done as with the STRIP method in the same amount of time. The number of sessions can be discussed during the consultation with your surgeon.

How Many Grafts/Hairs Will I Need?
The amount of grafts you will need ultimately depends on your degree of hair loss and on how dense your donor hair is at the back.

Will It Really Look Natural?
Yes, the only people who know will be those you tell.
