Medical Dermaroller
Micro-needling, also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a safe, highly-successful way to fade scars, stretch marks, wrinkles and skin discoloration.
It's ideal for all skin types and is completely natural and non-invasive. So there's no downtime or risk of side-effects. The results are so impressive, micro-needling can be a viable alternative to expensive surgery.
Micro-needling is much safer than chemical peels and lasers because these treatments work by removing or destroying cells. This thins the skin and makes it permanently fragile. Instead, micro-needling stimulates new, healthy skin cell production so:
- You return to regular activities after treatment
- There's no post treatment pain, bleeding or bruising*
- It's safe on all skin types
- There's no risk of scarring or other side-effects
- You can safely repeat treatments for continued younger, healthier skin
*in rare instances, tiny bruises may occur

What is Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a minimally-invasive, non-ablative cosmetic procedure. This procedure is often used for reducing scars caused by acne, surgery or burns. It's also used for fading stretch marks, evening skin pigmentation, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and tightening sagging skin.
Dermaroller® is the world's most trusted, safest micro-needling device. It contains hundreds of fine needles for penetrating skin. The device is rolled across the treatment area, puncturing skin in a specific pattern. This creates a controlled injury underneath the skin's surface, which triggers the body to "fill" these micro wounds by producing new collagen and elastin. Medical micro-needling also increases blood flow to the skin. The result: plumper, smoother, more vibrant and thicker skin.
What does Dermaroller® treat?
Dermaroller® is safe to use anywhere on your body where you'd like to:
- Reduce wrinkles
- Fill scars from acne, burns or skin lesions
- Shrink large pores
- Reduce certain scars from surgery or burns
- Even skin pigmentation
- Fade stretch marks
- Tighten sagging skin
- Normalize oily skin
- Smooth skin texture in trouble regions like arms and buttocks
How quickly can I see results?
You see results within 2-3 days after treatment. Because micro-needling stimulates natural collagen production at the cellular level, your skin continues looking smoother and firmer up to 8 weeks after treatment. After your Medical Dermaroller® treatment, you can continue creating new collagen for up to a year with regular use of the Dermaroller® Home Kit.
How many treatments do I need?
Depending on the individual skin condition, skin sufficiently resurfaces after 1-3 Medical Dermaroller® procedures. To allow skin cell regeneration, one should wait at least 6-8 weeks between procedures.
What are micro-needling and Collagen Induction Therapy?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a micro-needling device. CIT is safe and effective on all skin types without the risk of discoloration. The micro-needling procedure can be performed by licensed qualified medical professionals including physicians, osteopaths and naturopaths.
CIT is effectively used for:
- Reducing scars caused by acne, surgery or burns
- Fading stretch marks
- Reducing fine lines and deep wrinkles
- Evening skin pigmentation
- Tightening sagging skin
What is the CIT procedure like?
The micro-needling device used looks like a shaving razor with a drum. The drum can differ in widths, and is embedded with up to hundreds of fine micro-needles for penetrating the skin.
The entire procedure is all-natural and fast:
1. The medical professional applies a numbing cream on the treatment area.
2. Then rolls the micro-needling device across the treatment area, puncturing the skin in a specific pattern.
3. As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a channel or micro-wound.
4. This creates a controlled injury on and below the skin’s surface. The “injury” triggers the body to “fill” these micro-wounds by producing new collagen and elastin, and by stimulating skin cell regeneration.
5. The patient resumes regular activities almost immediately.
How does CIT work?
CIT or micro-needling works by stimulating the immune system and wound-healing mechanisms. As the micro-needles penetrate the skin causing micro-wounds, it triggers an intense inflammatory reaction that begins a cascade of subsequent reactions.
The important point is: a micro-needling intrusion is caused by tiny surgical needles. The skin's nerve receptors and defense mechanisms sense these fine needle intrusions as a specific type of injury and heals accordingly.
| During the healing process, skin cells (within a 1 to 2 mm radius around the pricking channel) release growth signals to undifferentiated cells otherwise known as skin stem cells. These signals also stimulate rapid growth of new fibroblasts and other wound repairing cells. |
![]() |
Many cell types including new fibroblasts rush to close the wound by migrating to the point of intrusion. These new fibroblasts then transform into collagen fibers which integrate with existing collagen in the upper dermis. The new collagen fibers thicken the skin, filling in atrophic scars. |
|
The micro-needling procedure creates thousands of micro wounds in a treatment area. As each wound induces new collagen formation, it forms a new, healthy collagen layer in the treatment area. This reaction is called collagenesis.
The wound healing process also stimulates rapid growth of endothelial cells (the thin layer of cells which line capillaries and blood vessels). In turn, this creates new capillaries for better blood supply to the skin. This reaction is called angiogenesis.
During the micro-needling procedure, tissue damage is unlikely because the needles are very fine and thin. In fact, skin integrity actually remains intact even though the skin reacts as if it had been "injured." The tiny wounds caused by the micro-needles are repaired and close very quickly. No tissue lesion can be detected, infections are rare, and there is nothing to repair.

What causes wrinkles and fine lines?
The skin consists of three layers: The epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis is the outer layer we see, and is made of skin cells also known as keratinocytes. Underneath this layer is the supportive dermis. The dermis is made of connective tissue (i.e.: collagen and elastin), contains other types of cells and serves as your skin’s structural support network. Under the dermis lies the subcutaneous tissue, which contains fat cells. These fat cells help make the skin look plump or full.
Skin aging is caused by multiple factors including:
- Protein, vitamin, mineral deficiencies
- Hormonal imbalances
- Improper hydration
- Lifestyle (e.g.: stress, smoking, diet)
- Excess free radicals (oxidation)
- Environmental factors (e.g.: chemicals, UV exposure)
As a person ages, the thickness of the epidermis naturally thins causing your skin to look visibly thinner. The cells and the matrix also lose their ability to retain moisture resulting in dramatically dryer skin.
The dermal layer also thins and produces less collagen with age. Meanwhile, elastin fibers (responsible for maintaining skin elasticity) also begin wearing out. With less collagen and weaker elastin fibers, wrinkles form and skin sags. The sebaceous (oil) glands enlarge, but produce less sebum (oil), which further dries out skin.
The subcutaneous fat cells shrink with age, unable to support the weakening dermal layer. This makes wrinkles and sagging skin more evident.
How do I prevent wrinkles from forming?
Wrinkles form when the skin degrades. Therefore, the best solution to fading current wrinkles and preventing future wrinkles is to produce new skin cells by a process that promotes and creates skin cell regeneration.
The most effective cell skin cell regeneration occurs through a simple process called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).
The most effective way to stimulate CIT is through micro-needling with a Medical Dermaroller®.
The Medical Dermaroller® is the only micro-needling device that communicates with skin stem cells to generate more collagen and elastin. Thus, remodeling of the epidermal and supporting dermal structures occurs. What you’ll see is greatly improved skin texture, firmness and hydration.
How many CIT treatments do I need?
Depending on the individual skin condition, skin sufficiently resurfaces after 1-3 Medical Dermaroller® procedures. To allow skin cell regeneration, one should wait at least 6-8 weeks between procedures.
As aging continues, we recommend one refresher CIT treatment every year. After each Medical Dermaroller® procedure, you can further improve CIT results by using the Dermaroller® models for home use in combination with appropriately enriched serums or creams.
Advice: Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Although we need sun exposure to create sufficient levels of Vitamin D in our bodies (at least 30 minutes a day), prolonged exposure damages your skin. When exposed to sun, always use sun screen SPF30!

Hyperpigmentation Treatment
Hyperpigmentation is the result of skin cells called melanocytes that produce excess melanin – the pigment that produces skin color. Hyperpigmentation can be caused by:
- Medications
- Nutrient excess or deficiencies
- Sun damage
- Skin injuries
- Hormonal disruptions
- Acne
After an appropriate assessment by your medical professional, Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) can dramatically even out skin tone. CIT regenerates and repairs deep in the dermis (deepest skin layer), where all repair must occur for lasting results.
CIT is proven to safely and effectively fade hyperpigmentation on all skin types.
What to expect
Although results may vary, dark areas can disappear within one to two treatments or as determined by your medical provider. Because it's replaced by healthier skin, these dark melanin-rich areas usually do not return. It may take up to 8 weeks to observe the full effect of therapy.
Note: After micro-needling, use sunscreen SPF 30 for at least one week and avoid direct sun exposure.

Are All Micro-Needling Rollers The Same?
To the naked eye of patients and medical professionals alike, micro-needling rollers may look deceptively simple and similar. However, when a learned and critical eye looks upon each individual micro-needling roller in the marketplace, a much different appraisal occurs.
Properly designed micro-needling rollers require expert medical engineering. From the type of plastic, to the alloy used in the production of the micro-needles, to the number of micro-needles imbedded into the roller, to how easy the roller rolls on the skin, etc. These details are critical in order for the micro-needling device to be effective and to obtain the best clinical results.
In order to easily puncture and penetrate the skin, and to communicate with skin stem cells, the proper needle design, pattern and number of needles for specific applications have to be taken into consideration. The list of details is lengthy.
What’s important to remember is Collagen Induction Therapy can only be achieved through medical micro-needling. Treating micro-needling as less than a medical surgical procedure puts you at risk because improper use can cause skin tissue and nerve damage.
To ensure your safety, desired results and a comfortable experience during treatment, you must use a micro-needling device that’s engineered, manufactured and packaged with the same quality standards as a medical/surgical instrument. After production of the medical instrument, they are required to the packaged, sterilized, placed in a container and sealed. When you look at the container you should clearly and easily be able to read and determine the following:
1. Model/type of instrument or device in the package
2. Lot-Number
3. Date of production
4. Date of expiration
5. Method used to guarantee sterility
6. Name of the manufacturer
7. Arrives in its original packaging
If you aren't able to determine any of the above listed factors by looking at the container, you should be suspicious. Within each individually sterilely packaged medical instrument or device in a container you also should find instructions for use. Dermaroller ® meets and exceeds all of the above listed requirements.
