Sculptra is an injectable implant that contains microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic polymer from the alphahydroxy-acid family.

Sculptra is injected into the face to restore and/or correct the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy). It is FDA approved for people with human immunodeficiency virus and used "off label" for non diseased individuals.

Sculptra restores the lost volume associated with facial lipoatrophy through a gradual increase in dermal thickness, which may persist for up to 2 years after the first treatment session. Sculptra requires no skin testing prior to injection.
