LEVULAN TREATMENTS

Acne:
Blue U plus Levulan

Medication “Levulan” is applied 20-30 minutes prior to the treatment. Levulan penetrates into the follicles and is absorbed. P acnes bacteria is destroyed along with a decrease of the production of oil in the sebaceous glands after being exposed to the Blue U light.

The treatment, from the time the Levulan is applied, until you are ready to leave takes approximately 1 hour. Your face is painted with the Levulan. This is kept on for 20-30 minutes. You are then placed under the Blue U light for approximately 8-10 minutes.(if treating shoulders or back you will be under the light for approximately 20 minutes. The light activates the levulan.

Three (3) treatments over a 6 week period of time are recommended for acne. Your face will be red, some inflammation will be apparent and you will most likely peel in about 3 days. A 50-80% decrease in Acne usually results. Another series may be necessary after about 6 months. Everyone is different.

All light sources need to be avoided for the next 48 hours (including fluorescent lighting. You must wear a sun block that contains zinc oxide.

If you are using Retin A, this must be discontinued 2 weeks prior to treatment. Blue U plus Levulan Costs:

This treatment is wonderful to decrease wrinkling and pigmentation damage, freshen, tighten and increase smoothness of the skin. This peel will also decrease oil production in the skin. Levulan is applied to the skin one hour prior to your treatment. You are then placed under the Blue U light to activate the Levulan for approximately 8-10 minutes (10-12 minutes for shoulders or back).

Expect to be pink to red after this treatment and to peel in about 3 days. This peel can also be performed on hands for brown spots.

You will need to wear sun block containing zinc oxide after your treatment as well as avoiding exposure to the sun for 48 hours.

Treatments can be performed every 2 weeks. This treatment is also effective for those with keratosis pilaris. Retin A must be discontinued 2 weeks prior to treatment.
